SELLING IMPORTED PRODUCTS

IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER:

  • Importers must buy merchandise from suppliers after receiving orders from customers. There must be sufficient demand to cover the supplier’s minimum order requirements;
  • The retail market is divided into two major groups:
  • Mass market such as Walmart: These retailers sell popular and proven products at the lowest possible price. They are difficult to contact in order to make enquiries, strict on late delivery, slow to pay and thus may not be an ideal market for the new importer;
  • Regular Retailers:  These include Department stores, stores owned by individuals etc. They are easy to contact, provide importers with small orders that could expand as the product becomes popular. They also make payments on time.
